In the ancient practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, practice begins with Surya Namaskar, or the Sun Salutation, because traditionally yoga is practiced in the mornings, when yogis “greet the day” as the sun comes up. This is a series of movements from which the modern-day “vinyasa flow” originates, moving from Chaturanga Dandasana to Upward Facing Dog and Downward Facing Dog. This practice has many variations, and different levels are demonstrated here by both teacher and student, so viewers can determine which is best for them.
